Purpose Built Mulching Units

Mulching units are mounted onto skid steer, agricultural based and/or purpose built prime movers, rubber tyred or tracked ranging from 100hp to 600hp. Machines can clear anywhere from 1/4 hectare to over 1 hectare per hour, depending on the terrain and the size of the material to be mulched.

These machines are utilised in:

  • Power line clearing – transmission or distribution
  • Gas and oil pipeline clearing
  • Fibre optic or cable easements
  • Mulching invasive woody weeds – such as gorse, blackberry, Chinese apple, lantana, prickly acacia, boxthorn, mimosa, etc.
  • Subdivisional clearing
  • Broad acre or sucker re-growth clearing in farming
  • Clearing of Railway Easements
  • Clearing fire breaks, fire trails, fuel reduction, understorey clearing for bush fire mitigation
  • Roadside clearing.

Each tractor mulching unit has full underbelly guarding, 4-way power tilt blade, bush rigging, ROPS/FOPS canopy, steel wire armour tyres, heavy duty forestry rims and 2-way radio communications.

Mulching Australia offers purpose built mulching units to suit different job requirements be it saplings or large dry timber. We match the required horsepower or machine to each job to give the best cost savings to the end-user. Or run multiple machines together to maximise efficiency and produce fast or more economic results for your requirements.

The Power of Purpose-Built Engineering

When managing vast tracts of land or critical infrastructure corridors, standard agricultural equipment often falls short. Purpose-built mulching units are engineered specifically for the rigors of forestry and heavy-duty land clearing. Unlike traditional “push and pile” methods, these units process organic material where it stands, turning standing timber and dense scrub into a nutrient-rich mulch layer.

By utilizing high-horsepower engines—reaching up to 600hp—these machines maintain high torque even when encountering large-diameter logs or dense, woody invasive species. This ensures a consistent finish and prevents the “stalling” common with underpowered machinery.

Operational Efficiency & Environmental Benefits

The primary advantage of our purpose-built fleet is the all-in-one processing capability. Traditional clearing often requires multiple stages: felling, stacking, hauling, and burning. Our mulching units condense these into a single pass.

  • Soil Protection: The resulting mulch stays on-site, acting as an immediate erosion control measure and suppressing the regrowth of weeds.
  • No Burning Required: This eliminates the need for burn permits and the risks associated with smoke management near highways or residential areas.
  • Selective Clearing: The precision of our tracked and rubber-tyred units allows operators to remove invasive species while leaving desirable “keep” trees untouched, maintaining the ecological balance of the site.

Versatile Mobility for Every Terrain

Our fleet is strategically selected to handle the diverse Australian landscape. Whether your project is situated on a steep embankment or a sensitive wetland area, we have the right configuration:

  1. Tracked Mulchers: Feature low ground pressure (PSI) to operate on soft or boggy ground where wheeled machines would sink. Their low center of gravity makes them the safest choice for steep fire trail maintenance and hillside clearing.
  2. Rubber Tyred Units: Offer superior mobility for roadside clearing and urban easements. These units can move between work zones quickly without damaging bitumen surfaces, making them highly cost-effective for civil and council contracts.

Specialized Protection for High-Risk Zones

Safety is paramount, especially when working in high-voltage transmission corridors or near gas pipelines. Every unit in the Mulching Australia fleet is “Forestry Spec.” This means more than just a heavy-duty frame; it includes integrated fire suppression systems and high-impact glazing to protect operators from flying debris.

The 4-way power tilt blade allows our operators to manage terrain on the fly, creating safe working platforms in uneven areas and ensuring the mulching head stays at the optimal angle for maximum material throughput.
