Purpose Built Mulching Units

Mulching units are mounted onto skid steer, agricultural based and/or purpose built prime movers, rubber tyred or tracked ranging from 100hp to 600hp. Machines can clear anywhere from 1/4 hectare to over 1 hectare per hour, depending on the terrain and the size of the material to be mulched.

These machines are utilised in:

  • Power line clearing - transmission or distribution
  • Gas and oil pipeline clearing
  • Fibre optic or cable easements
  • Mulching invasive woody weeds - such as gorse, blackberry, Chinese apple, lantana, prickly acacia, boxthorn, mimosa, etc.
  • Subdivisional clearing
  • Broad acre or sucker re-growth clearing in farming
  • Clearing of Railway Easements
  • Clearing fire breaks, fire trails, fuel reduction, understorey clearing for bush fire mitigation
  • Roadside clearing.

Each tractor mulching unit has full underbelly guarding, 4-way power tilt blade, bush rigging, ROPS/FOPS canopy, steel wire armour tyres, heavy duty forestry rims and 2-way radio communications.

Mulching Australia offers purpose built mulching units to suit different job requirements be it saplings or large dry timber. We match the required horsepower or machine to each job to give the best cost savings to the end-user. Or run multiple machines together to maximise efficiency and produce fast or more economic results for your requirements.

Groomers

Groomers are an excavator mounted flail mulching mower that can be mounted on excavators from 8 to 40 tonne. Groomers are best utilised in:

  • Rough or steep terrain
  • Wet conditions
  • In hard to get to places
  • In and around trees
  • Along creeks, river banks and/or river crossings
  • Over fences
  • Along road verges
  • Up or down banks or batters.

Groomers will mulch material up to 14 inches in diameter and work effectively in conjunction with our mulching Units. We utilise the groomer as a giant whipper snipper and the tractor mounted mulching unit as a ride-on mower.

Groomers can mulch up to 2 hectares per day depending on terrain and size of material. Due to restrictions in functions per minute, it is physically impossible for excavators to clear any more area than this. Excavators should not be used to clear large flat areas as they are uneconomical in a broad acre sense.
Where they do have an advantage is being able to reach in and around objects without damage to the surrounding environment, trees or to the vegetation that is to remain. And access hard to reach areas.

Mulching Australia offer a full range of groomers mounted onto 12 tonne, 15 tonne, 20 tonne, 25 tonne and 30 tonne excavators.

Tree Grabs

The vertical extraction tree grab is an excavator mounted tree grab that can either pull the trees out of the ground roots-n-all with minimal ground disturbance. Or remove limbs or tops of trees by breaking them off.

Tree grabs can be utilised for:

  • Removing large trees in new or existing corridors
  • Removing dead or dying trees
  • Selective clearing
  • Standing power poles or foundation poles
  • Willow or noxious tree removal in creeks or rivers
  • Removal of fruit/citrus trees
  • Widening existing corridors of fringe trees.

The tree grab has total control over the material that it handles, making it extremely safe in tight or restricted areas. The tree grab can remove trees vertically from the ground with ease as the root system of the tree is not designed to withstand vertical forces.

A tree grab can remove a 20m tree in less than 60 seconds or it can break the top out and then remove the base within 90 seconds. The tree grab can also be utilised to hold a tree whilst it is being cut by chainsaw and then lower the tree with total control to the ground.

Mulching Australia can offer tree grabs mounted onto 20, 25 and 30 tonne excavators.

Stone / Rock Crushers

The stone crushers are the most cost-efficient means of maintaining or refurbishing gravel roads. This can mean cost savings of up to 80% of your current costs. Below are some of the stone crushers main tasks:

  • Skimming Roads - the rotor is dropped into the road approximately 25mm-50mm and removes corrugations and any larger stone which is exposed. The stone crusher will crush the material to 20mm and then spread it evenly back out behind the machine using the grader blade. This task can be performed at speeds between 1km to 4km per hour.
  • Road Refurbishment - we crush approximately 100mm-200mm deep and refurbish and shape the road back to original condition, recycling the existing material. This task can be performed at speeds of between 0.2km to 1km per hour.
  • Re-Sheeting - can be done by using the existing stone under the road base for material to build the road up, or we can cart material in from the closet borrow pit or quarry and spread on the road then mulch it. When re-sheeting we can also utilise any oversized material that has been pushed over the edge of the roads in the past by graders. This task can be performed at speeds between 0.5km to 1.5km per hour.

The stone crushers can crush rock up to 400mm in diameter, down to 30mm, at a rate of over 300 cubic metres. The stone crusher can also be utilised for crushing base course on new roads, tidying up forestry roads, fire trails, mulching vegetation and rock in areas too rocky for a conventional mulcher.

Other applications include crushing concrete, tarseal, bricks, building blocks, tiles. In farming such as cropping scenarios and horticultural applications it can be used to crush rock in vineyards, fruit trees, olive groves etc. and to refurbish access tracks.

Mulching Australia are happy to provide references, names and phone numbers of Councils and Government Departments that have used this machinery to verify the cost savings and capability.

Drone

We offer a drone service with high resolution camera for scoping the terrain ahead of the machines or identifying hazards.
